Whichever one of yous mooks got me Megaman ZX Advent, thank you. I have been thoroughly enjoying it. Also, apologies for not being on for the latter part of last week and weekend. I was moving and had next to no time to get online. Should be okay now, though. :)

I'm late for the bandwagon...as always. [Dec. 9th, 2008|09:49 am]
I've been home with a nasty viral infection, and I've been meaning to put this up for awhile, just got around to it now.

That's my wishlist (I can't seem to get the button to show up for some reason, and I'm too tired and not all here to figure out what I'm doing wrong with it right now).

I'll probably fix it later....>_>;

Heya everybody [Oct. 24th, 2008|06:20 pm]
Just a quick entry to note that I won't be on esper tonight.  Gotta be up at the ass-crack of dawn tomorrow, but I should be on tomorrow night.  Maybe if we're lucky we can coordinate doing something?  Just a thought.  Anyways, yeah.

Everyone has things they blog about. Everyone has things they don'tblog about. Challenge me out of my comfort zone by telling me somethingI don't blog about, but you'd like to hear about, and I'll respond viacomments. Ask for anything: latest movie watched, last book read, political leanings, thoughts on fannish stuff, favorite type ofunderwear, the less touched-upon aspects of my life, etc. And then, repost this on your journal so that I can start asking too.

[music |Saliva - Twister]

This day has been long in coming. I have procured Rock Band and spent most of the evening banging my heart out on the drums. I've beaten easy mode and am about a third into normal. I'll write a full on review of it when I finish all the singleplayer modes and maybe futz with some multiplayer. I have some friends IRL that I can probably rope into playing with me. *evil eyebrow waggle* Also, they've put a number of tracks up already (three song packs consisting of three songs each: a Metallica song pack (which has Ride the Lightning, ...And Justice For All, and Blackened), a Queens of the Stone Age pack (which has 3's and 7's, Sick Sick Sick and Little Sister) and a The Police pack (which has Roxanne, Synchronocity II and Can't Stand Losing You), as well as a couple of handfuls of other tracks.....one of which happens to be Foreigner's Jukebox Hero. All I'm going to say about that is: IT'S ABOUT FREAKING TIME!. :D

In other news, I has a job. Toady was orientation. I start next week Monday. Woot. :D

Interesting science news.... [Oct. 18th, 2007|02:23 pm]
First is this, a promising new treatment option for those with nerve damage. This is kind of a neat idea, and I do wonder if it could be developed further so that you could graft the nerves on one end to motor nerves in say, a severed limb, and the other end onto a control wire or chip so you could have direct control over a cybernetic limb. If so, it would be a major step in treatment for amputees.

There have been a few stories floating around on Slashdot and Arstechnica about using a few PS3s networked together as a small supercomputer. One story (which I can't seem to locate the link for at the moment), detailed robotics researchers using 3 linked PS3s to dramatically improve the efficacy of their image recognition software. Another article, up on Slashdot yesterday, detailed physicists using 8 linked PS3s to look at gravity waves. I can't say I'm really surprised; after all, when the PS2 came out, the government wouldn't let them be sold in Iraq and Iran because they didn't want them to be chained into makeshift supercomputers to be used for WMD research. What IS interesting on the PS3 front are these two announcements. The first is a little more surprising than the second, though I can't really blame them. What is surprising about the second is that for the new version, they're dropping backwards compatibility. While I suppose it might help keep costs down, I wouldn't wonder if people largely ignore this version when it comes out and will just fork over the extra cash for the 80 gig version with backwards compatibility. A price drop is a price drop, and no matter what, you're still paying an arm and a leg for the console, especially in light of the 360 and the Wii. Well, at least researchers are having fun with the console....

Maybe there is a little bit of hope after all.... [Oct. 17th, 2007|02:44 pm]
Every now and then, as bad as things sometimes look for this country, our legislature actually does SOMETHING right, just to keep us on our toes. Case in point here. It's not a catch-all, and there could certainly be improvements, but at least it's a step in the right direction. I really hope that even if Bush vetoes it, the House and Senate override. This is something that needs to be passed. I think this is some of the first legislation that this Congress has tried to pass during Bush's reign that actually guarantees a right, instead of circumventing the ones already in place in the name of national security. As flawed as the American press is, it's still better to at least have people trying to keep scrutiny on the government, and if this covers professional bloggers, who knows. The web might actually become the most honest media outlet there is, without a big corporate spin. Of course, this IS the web, so along with the decent bloggers, you're going to get spouts from the people who brought you tubgirl, Raptor Jesus, and Milhouse. Still, the legislation is a tenative first step in the right direction, and I applaud the fact that there is bi-partisan support for it. Now, if only the parties could come up with decent candidates for the 2008 election....one can dream, right?

[music |Black Label Society - Concrete Jungle]

I went out and got a haircut today...and now I'm kind of wondering if the stylist was flirting with me or if she was just making conversation and I've just been out of human contact that long. She WAS pretty cute, but she said she'd just broken up with her boyfriend, so I didn't really want to push things. Still, I'm kinda kicking myself for not asking for her number or something. I've come to the realization that I DO need some actual, face-to-face contact with people outside of my admittedly small circle of IRL friends....I'm just...not sure what I should do. I've not had much serious social interaction in those kinds of situations since.....shit, I think the last time I was together with that big of a group of people IRL was Plattecon, in March. Maybe I should go play pool or something, just to get out of the house....or at least have a beer so that I can put some that's a little more fresh in my fridge. >_>

Out of the blue..... [Sep. 12th, 2007|03:38 pm]
[mood | calm]
[music |Saliva - Black Sheep]

Geez, I never update this thing. I gotta work on that. Anyways. I don't think I've mentioned this to...well, just about anybody, but as of this past Monday, I have, as [info]magnus_samma put it, turned my company into a giant, carnivorous rabbit and then hit it in the face repeatedly with a shovel. Actually, that's kind of vague; to put it in simpler terms, I left. I just couldn't stand it anymore. I was colossally unhappy there and I actually felt better about quitting than returning for another week of work. This, however, has put me into a quandry. I had planned to return to school this winter, and indeed, have taken steps to assure it would happen. But in the meantime, I need income. On one hand, I'm burned out on driving professionally, at least for a little bit. On the other, most of the other jobs I'm qualified for or are interested in are full-time positions that I would need to ditch at the end of the year so I could start school. Ideally, I'd like something where I could work from the apartment, but I'm unsure as to what I could do. I do have quite a bit of mechanical ability, but I have little in formal training in it, and most places want a certification, which I won't have until I finish school. I may try my hand at writing a few articles or starting a blog, but I don't really know how to go about making money at it. I'll probably wind up working for a temp agency or something for awhile, which I don't mind, as long as I can keep paying the bills. In that regard, I think I'm going to get a little practice in. I've not seriously sat down and written a paper or anything for over a year, so I'm going to try my hand at something right now. Just an exercise to get my writing skills back up to snuff. Feel free to skip or give feedback.

Wooo... [Jun. 6th, 2007|08:07 pm]
Eh, I had a weird day today, which compensates for the shitty start the week has been having. I'm scrapping using this journal as a record where I've ridden on my bike; I didn't ride most of last season due to my old bike's drain plug stripping out and not having first funds and then time to get it fixed, and I haven't gone anywhere enough to really use it for what I intended with my new bike, so yeah. Anyways, as a result of events I don't feel like talking about right now, I have the rest of the week off. To distract myself, I made a couple of impulse purchases: I went to the local gaming shop (which is more of a geekshop, really. They sell all kinds of games, action figures and comic books), and bought two "action figures". I use the term loosely, because they're closer to models than action figures.

Whee! [Jun. 7th, 2006|10:20 pm]
[mood | calm]
[music |Guilty Gear X2 OST - Fuuga]

Today's been so-so. Job interview jerked me around, but afterwards, I went for a long ride. Headed west, and went through Mazomanie and Arena. Beautiful blue sky, with mounds of green trees ahead of me. There's beautiful country out along Highway 14, but I've been out that way before. Decided it was time for a detour, so I turned north onto 23 just outside of Spring Green. 23 runs an awesome path north between and up the mounds, lots of trees, scenery and best of all, curves. Rode 23 north to Reedsburg and Baraboo, before turning east, intending to go home. However, when I picked up 12 east just outside of West Baraboo, the traffic was heavy, as it was about 4:15 and rush hour was starting. Decided to take a detour around Madison by heading for Devil's Lake. I'd been to Devil's Lake once, when I was about 10 on a day outing with one of our old churches. I hadn't intended on riding through the park, but ride I did, and the country was even more beautiful than I remembered. I didn't want to pay the fee to park and walk around and climb the big rocks that are along the shore, but even riding slowly through the park was very scenic, with a canopy of green over me interspersed with sunlight through the branches. After exiting out the other side of the park, I rode through Merrimac, though I didn't take the ferry. I decided to head for Portage, and from there, to pick up the Interstate towards home. Unfortunatly, while the road there is very scenic and pretty curvy, there are some spots there that hide loose gravel in the corners. I learned this lesson the hard way, as I dumped the bike at about 30 miles an hour going through an extremely sharp turn that had gravel all over the damn place. I must've inherited my Silverwing's previous owner's luck, for while I bent the highway pegs he custom made and the rear brake lever, there was little other damage to the bike, and I myself escaped with a scraped up elbow and some road rash on my hand. A quick bend back of the highway peg and brake lever is all that's needed to repair the damage to the bike. Not a bad day, all things considered.

Postage! [Mar. 12th, 2006|02:23 am]
[mood | mellow]
[music |Envy - Burning Again]

Been a long time since I've posted in this journal. I just....guess I don't use it much. I want to try and change that. Thus, I'm going to start using this as sort of a log of the places I go on my motorcycle this season. Since I'm planning on doing my pre-season maintenance tomorrow, I figured I might as well make an initial post with some info for those who don't know.

My ride is a 1981 Honda GL500 Silverwing. I bought this thing last summer and have sorely missed riding it. Although it's "only" a 500, it pulls pretty hard. I've never opened it up all the way, but I estimate top speed to be somewhere around 120. It's black with gold trim, and is currently missing one pair of turn signals on the rear. I intend to get them replaced soon. I also need to get a new seat for it (or at least, some leather to make a new seat cover out of) because the old seat's cover is currently split in two places. This thing is actually a touring bike. While I don't have most of the touring accessories, it's still a fun and comfortable bike to ride long distances. It handles well, holds nearly 5 gallons of gas, and it's a hoot to listen to, mostly because the previous owner replaced the stock cone pipes with Harley Sportster straight pipes. It currently has somewhere in the range of 35,000 miles on it. I plan to put a lot more on it before I'm done with it. :)

Where did I go last season? Here's some of the more memorable rides:

Madison to Platteville, the long way: The short way to take this trip is to ride 151 from Madison to Platteville. Since I can practically drive that in my sleep, I went a different route. I went through Madison, picked up 14 in Middleton and rode west, all the way to Richland Center. This is somewhat scenic, but the real beauty of this ride comes when you pick up 80 south in Richland Center. The road takes you through several rural towns and through areas filled with huge hills covered in trees. The road snakes between these mounds, and the scenery is awesome. It's also a good workout for a rider, because the road is so twisty. When I drove this route in my truck one day, it scared the crap out of me, but riding on the bike was ever so much fun. :D This path DOES take you past a large windfarm, which is really neat.

Platteville to the Quad Cities: I rode this after getting curious about The Great River Road, a series of highways in the states that are along the Mississippi river. While sections of this can be somewhat boring, because the road is flat and has little or no curves to it, the towns are interesting. I rode down the Illinois side of the Great River Road, and then came back up the Iowa side. This was one of the last rides I took this fall. Was really freaking cold, too. Never underestimate the warming powers of gas station coffee.

Platteville to Alden, IA: I rode this on a whim one day. My father had moved there almost a year ago, and I was curious as to what his new residence looked like. However, when I got there, I discovered that his listed address was several miles down a gravel road. I didn't like the look of the road, so I turned around and went home. Was still nice to go through Iowa Falls, even though it was a little out of my way. Was bloody windy that day.

Stoughton to Wisconsin Dells: I rode this via Highway 12. Very scenic. If I recall correctly, this route also takes you past the old Badger Munitions plant, which is kind of...eerie to ride past. Still, a neat ride.

I've gone on other short trips as well, some I can't recall, and some were at night. Night riding is fun, but you have to be even more careful than you do during the day. Also, to those of you who have deer around, a piece of advice: no matter how loud your exhaust is, the deer will not be afraid of it. No, it's the horns that sound like they came off of a dinky little mid-80's compact car that really scare deer shitless.

Anyways. I'm go to bed now, so I can get up and do my maintenance tomorrow.
